Sammy Mureithi Gichohi-Ambitious businessman

John Githanga Full Gospel Churches of Kenya Great Mount Sinai Church Los Angeles Jackie Cressel-Gichohi

He was born in Nakuru on February 21, 1959 to Zachariah Gichohi Kamuyu and Mary Wanjiru Gichohi, popularly known as Baba and Mama Shem, respectively. Mureithi attended St. Paul's Primary School and Afraha High School in Nakuru. After acquiring education, he hit the ground running in the world of business.

He mooted the idea of the once very famous Red Rose Café on Kenyatta Lane, Nakuru in early 1980s, which was one of its kind in terms of design, ambience, and food in the entire Nakuru CBD. And thus, our camaraderie with Mureithi began. Apart from being an astute businessman, he was also interested in politics.

In 1983, he stood for the councilor’s seat at Langa Langa Ward, and although he didn't clinch it, he proved that he was a force to reckon with. In 1986, Mureithi relocated to the US where in his early years in "the land of opportunities", he obtained an associate degree in computer technology at Cerritos College in California. He later worked in various industries in the IT and hospitality industries.

Mureithi married Jackie Cressel-Gichohi (RIP), and they were blessed with two children: Victoria Lefaye Wanjiru and Samuel Eugene Gichohi who are still domiciled in Southampton in the US. Mureithi was brought up in a strict Christian family and was a member of Full Gospel Churches of Kenya before joining his brother-in-law Pastor Kalvin Cressel Jr's Great Mount Sinai Church in Los Angeles where his wife also pastored.

In December 2017, Mureithi came to Kenya to attend the burial of his elder brother Steve Wambia who had passed on in South Africa. Unfortunately, while still in the country on February 23, he fell sick and after being rushed to hospital, he was admitted in High Dependency Unit. After five days, he passed on in a state of coma. He was interred at Lang'ata Cemetery in Nairobi. May our good Lord rest Mureithi's soul in eternal peace.

Tribute by your friend John Githanga.
