David Macharia and Isabell Macharia: Siblings bound even in death

Inspector David Mwangi Macharia and his sister Isabell Wanjiru Macharia died following a road accident near Sagana when their vehicle crashed into a trailer on May 2.

Their parents, Daniel Macharia Miano and Alice Wambui Macharia, remember them as hard-working children who went out of their way to make them proud.

Inspector David, who died aged 30, studied at Kahuru Primary School and then joined Kirimara Secondary School before undergoing training at the National Youth Service.

He later got into the Administration Police College in Embakasi.

A lover of learning, he went on to enroll for a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and at the time of his death, he was pursuing a master's degree at the same institution.

He was a dedicated o­ cer described by his colleagues in the force as a man who lived in harmony with one and all.

He leaves behind his wife Lily Jebet Cherutich, whom he married in a traditional ceremony in 2017. The two had a son, David Macharia Mwangi.

Isabell, who died aged 20, received her primary school education at St Dorcas Academy and later went to Othaya Girls High School, where she sat her KCSE exams.

She later joined Chuka University to pursue a degree in procurement.

She died while in her third year. Isabell, who was baptised as an infant by Rev Muchemi at PCEA Kahuru Church and later con? rmed by Rev Joseph Gachau, harboured a strong ambition to succeed in education to secure her future.

She also served actively as a youth member in church.

David died at the scene of the accident, while his sister succumbed to her injuries two days later while in hospital in Karatina.

The two siblings were buried on May 10 at their parents' home in Kahuru village, Nyeri County.
