Dorcas Nanjala Sitati did not draw lines in the sand when it came to her relationships – as long as you were in her circle, you were her family. She was generous with her advice, hugs and time. This endearing personality won the hearts of her colleagues and clients at the Standard Group offices, where she served in the security team. Dorcas, who died on May 13, 2018, aged 33, was friendly to guests and was particularly supportive of newcomers and interns, whom she helped find their way around the workplace.

Dorcas was born in 1985 to the late David Sitati Nangalama (Omukiyabi) and the late Alice Nekesa Sitati. She was a sister to Abraham, Damaris, Josiah, the late Deborah, Isaac, Abigail, Joan, the late Jeremiah, Rebecca and Naomi. She married Kennedy Jumah in 2006 and they had three children: Kevin Jumah, Concerllence Jumah and Karen Jumah.

Dorcas started her education at Lukhokwe Primary School in 1992 and proceeded to Maliki Mixed Secondary School in 2002. She later moved to Kikai Secondary School where she sat her KCSE exams in 2005.

She started her working life at the Nine One One Group (911), where her bubbly disposition and warm smile won her many friends. Her colleagues remember with fondness her sense of humour and miss the wise counsel she dished out with uncanny insight.

Dorcas fell ill during her last pregnancy and was treated for joint pains. However, she continued experiencing occasional pain in her hip joint whose severity would cause instability that sometimes resulted in her falling down. On May 9, 2018, she complained of severe pain in her left leg and took painkillers. The pain did not subside, so she went to hospital and was diagnosed with malaria and treated. On the evening of May 13, she collapsed at home. She was rushed to Webuye County Referral Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:30pm. She was buried on May 26 at Lukhokwe village in Bungoma County.
