A good teacher inspires hope, ignites the imagination and instills a love of learning. Those who were taught by Ambrose were fortunate enough to find a good teacher. For more than a decade and a half, he dedicated himself to the students and parents of St Francis of Assisi Secondary School, Muramba, and Kionyo Day Secondary School.

Away from the classroom, Ambrose was a joyful and loving man who enjoyed socialising with family, neighbours and anyone who enjoyed good conversation.

He was born in Kiamweri village, Chogoria Mission Hospital, Meru County on August 2, 1978 to Bernard Gikunda and Delfina Igoki. He was a brother of James Murithi, Peter Mwenda, Phineas Kinoti, Fridah Gakii, Nancy Gatwiri and Wilcent Kinya.

He went to school at Mukaragatune Primary School and later Abothuguci Boys Secondary School. Between 1999 and 2001, he trained as a mathematics and physics teacher at Kagumo Teachers Training College.

In 2015, Ambrose married Emily Nkatha and they were blessed with two children – the late Victoria Makena and Sheva Munene.

He was a staunch Christian – a journey that began on September 24, 1978 when he was baptised at St Peter’s Catholic Church. He was a parishioner at Ruiri Parish and a member of the St Stephen Small Community.

He died at Kenyatta National Hospital at 9.15pm on September 14, 2018 following weeks of illness. He was buried on September 21 at his home in Kiamweri village.
